COMMUNICATION TIPS

  • Always prepare, whether communicating with one person or 100. Understand that each presentation/situation is unique, set the pace, follow a “road map”, and do not take side trips at your listeners’ expense.
  • Focus on your listeners, not on yourself; take frequent “temperature readings” during talk.
  • Engage listeners by presenting evidence and implications.
  • Be clear and concise in your delivery; do not overpower your listeners with technology or technical terminology.
  • Be flexible during your presentation; do not get bound to your script; welcome interaction and questions; retell “story” if necessary; explain without being defensive.
